A report by the London Cycling Campaign Women’s network has revealed shocking levels of abuse faced by women cycling.
The survey of more than a thousand women who cycle in London revealed nine out of ten had experienced abuse, including sexual harassment, physical threats and physical and sexual assaults.
More than one in five women said they had given up cycling temporarily or permanently as a result of these experiences.
Thousands of women took part in the Women’s Freedom Ride in March, a protest ride to highlight the barriers that stop women cycling.
Mariam Draaijer, CEO of Joyriders Britain, spoke to SWLondoner about some of these barriers and what she wants to see change for women cyclists in London.
