Kellen Fisher hopes Bromley can use their National League play-off heartbreak to fuel a renewed push for a first ever promotion to the EFL.
The 19-year-old was named Sportsbeat Young Player of the Year at the Non-League Paper’s National Game Awards, in association with Isuzu, after a stunning breakout season at Hayes Lane.
His impressive displays have reportedly caught the eye of Premier League clubs but Fisher is keeping his feet on the ground and is determined to help the Ravens soar to new heights following their dramatic late semi-final exit at the hands of Chesterfield.
“It was a really exciting season, especially with it being my full season of men’s football,” said Fisher.
“I enjoyed every second of it. Not many people expected us to win the play off quarter-final against Woking and we passed that with flying colours, so we’ve done really well.
“We were about 12 points off the play offs at one point and went on a good run but we were unlucky in the semis against Chesterfield.
“Next season we want to go again, get a higher league position and hopefully get into League Two.”
The right-back gave glimpses of his potential last season when he played for Bromley in the FA Trophy and gained National League South experience on loan at Welling United.
During the 2022/23 season he built on that platform to become a stand-out figure for Andy Woodman’s side and earmark himself as one of the brightest young starlets in Non-League.
The former Newcastle goalkeeping coach has made the transition to management look seamless and has been crucial in Fisher’s development.
“He’s been very supportive of me, puts a lot of trust in me and confidence in me to play my best,” said Fisher.
“We were down at one stage when we were a way off the play off places. He picked everyone up and gave us the belief that we could get there and that’s what we did, so credit to him.”
A Chelsea fan, Fisher points to Reece James as the type of player he hopes to become one day and has his sights set on continuing his rapid progress next season.
“I want to get more games under my belt, pop with a few more assists and goals and have another good season,” added Fisher.
“I’m an up and down full back, I like to pop with goals and assists but I like to do the dirty work as well.”
