Wimbledon and Chelsea legend Dave Beasant to reveal all at Sutton United

Wimbledon FA Cup hero Dave Beasant will be talking through his career in a question and answer session at Sutton United next Friday.

The event, hosted by ex-Chelsea defender Gary Chivers, will give members of the public the opportunity to learn more about the goalkeeper who made 340 appearances for Wimbledon and 133 for Chelsea in a career that spanned 26 years.

Beasant was the first goalkeeper to save a penalty in an FA Cup final – when he saved from John Aldridge as Wimbledon famously beat Liverpool 1-0 in 1988 – and is currently a coach at League Two Stevenage.

Chivers, who has presented Q&A sessions with other ex-players, including Alan Mullery, believes this show has created a lot of interest.

“I’ve been presenting these events for a couple of months now and we’ve had a few good guests for the show so far,” he said.

“But, because it’s more current, there’s been such good interest in this one.

“I’m going to sit him down and talk through all his career moves. Where he started out from and where his career went up to.

“We’re going to talk about the fantastic and iconic save against Liverpool and his work at Stevenage, where he coaches his son.”

After the interview, the audience will get the chance to ask Beasant about any part of the career, including his two caps for England against Italy and Yugoslavia.

The session starts at 8pm in the vice president’s lounge at Sutton United’s Borough Sports Ground in Gander Green Lane.
