Streatham Redskins veteran Joe Johnston confident of successful weekend after ‘kick up backside’ loss to Invicta

Streatham Redskins captain Joe Johnston believes his team are feeling confident and ready to win ahead of this weekend’s double header against Solent and Oxford.

The Redskins secured their first win of the season last Sunday winning 3-2 at home to Bracknell Hornets and play hosts to bottom side Solent on Saturday.

The Londoners will then travel to play newly-promoted Oxford City Stars on Sunday who also picked up their first win of the season last weekend after defeating Wightlink Raiders 6-5.

Johnston highlighted that his team have learnt they need to be more prepared for matches and said: “Last Saturday’s result losing 12-4 against Invicta could have gone one of either two ways.

“It could have demoralised us or given us a kick up the backside and I think we saw on Sunday that is exactly what happened.”

Speaking ahead of the weekend’s fixtures the 34 year old said: “We’re feeling confident and we’ll be looking to secure four points this weekend.

” Any game we have at home we’ve got to look to win.”

Johnston insists his team cannot take their game against Oxford for granted.

He admitted: “Oxford is always a tough place to go and they have made some great signings.”
