Miller time! Midfielder at the double as Carshalton Athletic cruise into FA Cup first qualifying round

Carshalton Athletic made the first qualifying round of the FA Cup with a comfortable victory against visiting Farnham Town on Saturday.

The Robins’ top scorer Mickel Miller scored in each half, with Ricky Korboa’s third of the season sandwiched in between, to cement a 3-0 preliminary round win and an away tie at Ryman Premier outfit Worthing.

But midfielder Matt Males said afterwards he and his teammates shouldn’t start getting complacent after claiming their third win on the spin.

“We were fairly comfortable out there and, with no disrespect to Farnham, should have scored more goals – we had two disallowed and hit the crossbar twice,” Males said.

“But they put us under pressure a bit in the second-half and I think that’s because we became too relaxed. It is easy to take your foot off the gas when on top and that’s when things can slip.

“Had they nicked one at only one or two-nil then the game could potentially change, so Mickel’s second straight after half-time was important and we just need to maintain focus moving forwards.”

Males is relishing the trip to Worthing for the next round and is confident Ryman Division One South Carshalton can provide the West Sussex side with a stern test.

“They were in our division last season and we earned a draw at theirs with a good performance,” he added.

“Although we’ll be underdogs for this one, we have a strong mentality here and are going into every game at the moment believing we can win.”

Carshalton return to league business on Saturday with a trip to East Grinstead Town.

Elsewhere in the preliminary round, Walton Casuals beat Chatham Town 2-1 in a replay on Monday after drawing 3-3 on Saturday. They could face a derby in the next round if Walton & Hersham get past Greenwich Borough in tonight’s replay after drawing 1-1 on Saturday.

Corinthian Casuals beat Crawley Down Gatwick 3-2 to set up a home tie with North Leigh, while Tooting & Mitcham lost 1-0 to East Preston.

Colliers Wood United also face a replay tonight after drawing 3-3 at Banstead Athletic.
