Skupski and Koolhof reach Queen’s semi-final as Alcaraz advances

Neal Skupski and partner Wesley Koolhof reached the last four of the men’s doubles at the LTA’s cinch Championship at Queen’s on Thursday.

The top seeds claimed a 6-3 7-6(5) victory against Matt Ebden and Rohan Bopanna in their quarter-final encounter to reach the last four, where they will face Jiri Lehecka and Taylor Fritz.

Lloyd Glasspool and Dan Evans saw their campaign come to a close, with the all-British partnership losing 6-4 6-4 to second seeds and Roland Garros champions Austin Krajicek and Ivan Dodig.

While Joe Salisbury and partner Rajeev Ram also tasted defeat, the third seeds beaten 7-5 6-7(2) [11-9] by Edouard Roger-Vasselin and Santiago Gonzalez.

Elsewhere, in singles action top seed Carlos Alcaraz continued his quest for a first Queen’s title with a convincing second round win on Thursday.

World No.2 and US Open champion Alcaraz extended his stay at the tournament on his event debut, easing past Lehecka 6-2 6-3 to reach the quarter-final.

The Spaniard will face 2014 champion Grigor Dimitrov in the last eight, with the Bulgarian easing past eight seed Francisco Cerundolo on Thursday.

Having come through qualifying, Dimitrov defeated the Argentine 6-3 7-5 to progress.

However, third seed Fritz’s campaign was ended by experienced grass courter Adrian Mannarino.

Frenchman Mannarino, who rallied from a set down to beat Liam Broady in round one, beat the American 6-3 7-6(7) to set up a last eight contest versus seventh seed Alex de Minaur.

De Minaur has dropped just eight games on his way to the quarter-final stage, backing up his opening win over Andy Murray with a convincing 6-2 6-2 victory over Diego Schwartzman.
