Symons left gutted as Fulham lose to Brentford fightback

Brentford 2 Fulham 1

Kit Symons admitted his disappointment for the travelling support as his Fulham side gave away two late goals to lose at Brentford.

After a goalless first-half, Hugo Rodallega scored to give the Cottagers the lead, but goals inside the last ten minutes from Harlee Dean and Jota meant that Symons’ men came away from Griffin Park empty-handed.

Symons was left down-beaten by the manner of the loss, but praised the Fulham fans for their efforts.

Speaking to the official Fulham FC website, he said: “The fact that we got our noses in front and with such a short period of time to go, makes it really disappointed to come away from the game with nothing at all, not even a point.

“I thought we were poor first half, but full credit to Brentford. I thought they played really, really well. But we stayed in the game, we weathered the storm. Marcus [Bettinelli] made a few good saves to keep us in it.”

“That was the end of a really good unbeaten run for us. Let’s go again for another one.” – Kit Symons

Fulham had posed little threat during the first 45 minutes, but managed to get themselves in front 12 minutes after the restart after Ross McCormack laid the ball on a plate for Rodallega to score his seventh of the season.

The joy was to be short-lived as Dean, making up for a mistake made in the build-up to Fulham’s opener, hammered home into the roof of the net in the 81st minute before summer signing Jota sealed the comeback in the 91st minute as his deflected effort beat Bertinelli at his near-post.

The loss at Brentford spelt the end of a six-match unbeaten stretch in the Championship for the Cottagers, but Symons insisted his players will put in the hard yards on the training field in order to repeat the run.

“My focus is fully on improving us and making us better,” he added.

“I’ve been delighted with the response that the players and everyone at the club has given me and I couldn’t have asked for more.

“That was the end of a really good unbeaten run for us. Let’s go again for another one.”
