Match Report: AFC Wimbledon 2 Blackpool 0

Debutant Joe Pigott grabbed a goal to help AFC Wimbledon move out of the League One drop zone as they beat Blackpool 2-0.

Liam Trotter opened the scoring before Piggot sealed the victory in a cagey affair.

The Dons have now won two consecutive games as they look to stave off the looming threat of relegation.

Blackpool started well, with keeper George Long saving from Daniel Agyei early on to keep the scores level.

Wimbledon just edged possession in a game which eventually yielded presentable opportunities for both sides.

Tom Soares somehow contrived to head Lyle Taylor’s free-kick over the bar as both sides spurned opportunities to open the scoring.

Shortly after the break, Trotter finally made the breakthrough to put Wimbledon ahead.

Joe Lumley could only spill Cody McDonald’s low effort and the midfielder pounced on a rebound inside the box.

Pigott then climbed off the bench to fire home from a tight angle and ease tension inside Kingsmeadow.

Despite late pressure, the Seasiders couldn’t produce a telling moment of quality as the slipped to 17th in the table, just three points clear of the relegation place.
