Fulham boss positive ahead of London derby with Charlton Athletic despite wake-up defeat at Blackburn Rovers

Fulham host relegation battlers Charlton Athletic tomorrow in a fixture they hope will help them bounce back from Tuesday’s defeat at Blackburn Rovers.

The 3-0 loss brought the club back down to earth having secured their first win under manager Slaviša Jokanović last week at QPR, which was also their first victory of 2016.

And Jokanovic, who should be able to call on defender Chris Baird after he returned to the club on loan from Derby County, hopes the loss will spur the Cottagers on to better things.

“We’ve made important steps, but we had a bad night on Tuesday,” he said.

“It’s a wake-up call for us.”

But Jokanović insisted he is staying optimistic and in today’s pre-match press conference called on fans’ support to help them in the London derby, before focusing on the future.

He said: “There’s a long term process in front of us and I expect it is going to be successful.”

In the reverse fixture in October, Fulham let a two-goal lead slip as Charlton came back to draw 2-2.

But the Addicks have only won once in 15 games and are mired deep in a relegation zone in 23rd, six points from safety.
