Attitude pleases Walker as London Scottish get their season going with big win at Ealing Trailfinders

Ealing Trailfiders 17-37 London Scottish

Chris Walker hailed his London Scottish team-mates as they got their first win of the season with a bonus-point victory at Ealing Trailfinders on Saturday.

Tries from Drew Locke, Jason Harries, James Hallam and a brace from captain Mark Bright helped banish Scottish’s opening game defeat to Moseley.

“Our attitude pleased me the most,” Walker told London Scottish TV after the match.

“Last week we gave a lot of penalties away in the first half which helped Moseley into the game.

“In the first half here, our discipline wasn’t always up to scratch, but our defence, especially in the last 10 minutes meant that Ealing were going nowhere.

“There are still a lot of things to work on but all in all, I’m very pleased to get the five points.”

The Scots’ first try came through summer signing Locke, who reacted quickly to Pete Lydon’s kick through to score.

Ealing responded soon after thanks to a try from Iain Grieve, with Tristan Roberts’ conversion giving the hosts a two-point advantage.

But Harries soon raced clear of the defence to score his second try of the season and restore the visitors’ advantage.

Lydon’s first of three conversions then put Scottish 15-7 ahead after 26 minutes.

The home side then found their way back into the match with a try from Will Harries, who evaded two defenders to score in the corner.

But it was the visitors who were sitting comfortable at half time, going in 22-12 thanks to captain Bright’s converted try just before the break.

Ealing lost their discipline early in the second half, with Grieve and Carwyn Jones both seeing yellow in the space of five minutes.

The Scots made the most of their numerical advantage, with Bright getting his second try with 52 minutes on the clock.

Substitute Hallam got the Exiles’ fifth try under the posts with an hour gone, before Alex Walker scored a consolation for Ealing with a minute to go.

Lydon’s penalty with the last kick of the game rounded off the scoring.
