AFC Wimbledon hoping for upturn in league fortunes against York

York City v AFC Wimbledon @ Bootham Crescent

AFC Wimbledon will look to build on their win against Wycombe in the FA Cup last Sunday, as they return to league action against struggling York.

The Dons defeated York 3-1 just over three weeks ago in the FA Cup, in a game most memorable for Matt Tubbs last minute goal, after York goalkeeper Michael Ingham had gone up for a corner.

Since then they have taken a solitary point from two League 2 games leaving them in 16th place, prior to their return to winning ways against Wycombe, which set up a mouth-watering tie with Liverpool in the third round.

Wimbledon have won five of the last seven meetings between the two sides, but were unable to defeat Saturday’s opponents in either league game last season.

Summer signing and last week’s match-winner Sean Rigg will be hoping to repeat his goalscoring heroics in the cup in the league after manager Neal Ardley suggested he could reach double figures for the season.

Ardley has no new fresh injury concerns, but will have to make do without defender Jack Smith, who has been ruled out for two months with a thigh injury.

Meanwhile York will be desperate for a win to propel them up the table as they currently hover just above the relegation zone.

However, the home side have enjoyed an upturn in form recently, taking four points from six in their last two matches and manager Russ Wilcox has a fully fit squad to choose from.
