London-born Formula 1 driver Alex Albon has been promoted to Red Bull Racing for the remainder of the 2019 season.
Albon, who drives under the Thai flag, started the season at Red Bull junior team Toro Rosso, but has been promoted because of his good form and the struggles of Pierre Gasly.
Albon still lives in the capital and regularly attends a Buddhist temple in Wimbledon.
A Red Bull spokesperson said: “Red Bull are in the unique position of having four talented Formula 1 drivers under contract who can be rotated between the main team and Toro Rosso.
“The team will use the next nine races to evaluate Alex’s performance in order to make an informed decision as to who will drive alongside Max Verstappen in 2020.”
Gasly has struggled to adapt to becoming a Red Bull driver at the start of the season, with his highest finishing position being fourth, despite his teammate Verstappen winning two races.
Albon grew up in London before moving to Suffolk where he began karting, and came third in F2 last season earning him a seat at Toro Rosso for this season.
His stand out performances this season include driving from last on the grid to 10th in China and a sixth place finish in Germany.
