Katie Swan put on one of the performances of the tournament to beat Lily Yuriko Miyazaki in the Battle of the Brits and seal her place in the LTA’s Lexus Surbiton Trophy final.
The British No.5 will start next week as British No.1 if she defeats 2009 US Open semi-finalist Yanina Wickmayer in tomorrow’s final.
Bristol player Swan stormed to an emphatic 6-1 6-0 victory over friend-turned-rival Miyazaki after three British women reached the semi-finals of the tournament for the first time ever yesterday.
Miyazaki can hold her head up high having impressed in her quarter-final triumph over high-flying 16-year-old Isabelle Lacy, while Swan can look ahead to another mouth-watering match tomorrow.
Former world No.12 Wickmayer ensured there would be no all-British final for the first time ever after she beat Katie Boulter in straight sets.
The Belgian recorded a convincing 6-3 6-2 victory over her British rival in West London.
Andy Murray booked his place in the final of the men’s singles in style, beating Australia’s Jordan Thompson in straight sets on centre court.
The former world no.1 had to fight to win the first set but cruised to victory in the second to register a 7-6(5) 6-3 win.
Murray will now play Jurij Rodionov after he beat Belgium’s Zizou Bergs 6-4 6-2 in the day’s other semi-final.
Liam Broady and Jonny O’Mara capped an excellent afternoon for British hopefuls in West London, beating Australia’s Alexei Popyrin and Aleksandar Vukic in dramatic fashion to claim the men’s doubles titles.
After winning the first set, the Brits took a 5-1 lead in the second before the Aussies battled back to claim it.
However, Broady and O’Mara recomposed themselves and ended up walking away with a 6-4 5-7 10-8 win and the trophy.
