Harlequins sign Dave Lewis from Exeter Chiefs for 2017/18 Aviva Premiership season

Harlequins announced the signing of scrum-half Dave Lewis from Exeter Chiefs for the 2017/18 Aviva Premiership season on Monday.

Lewis, 27, is set to provide cover for current Quins scrum-half Karl Dickson – whose contract runs out at the end of this season.

The Manchester-born player re-signed for Exeter in 2013, after initially being an academy graduate, but has only made one start for Chiefs this season.

The exact terms for Lewis’ move to the Twickenham-based club have yet to be disclosed.

On securing his move, Lewis said: “I am really excited to be moving to Harlequins and starting a new challenge in my career.

“I’ve always enjoyed the atmosphere at The Stoop and the Quins style of play is something I’ve admired for a long time. I’m looking forward to getting to know the boys and training hard.”

Lewis has made one appearance for England Saxons in a 14-8 loss Ireland Wolfhounds in January 2014.

Harlequins director of rugby John Kingston said: “Dave is an extremely experienced Premiership operator.

“He is perfectly suited to the type of game we like to play. He is a scrum-half with excellent skills and is also a very good reader of the game.

“On top of that, he is an extremely personable guy who will fit into, and enhance, the environment that we are looking to build within the squad.”

Harlequins are seventh in the Aviva Premiership with 32 points and travel to Bristol Rugby on Friday, February 10.
