Lack of goals not a problem for The Beast as AFC Wimbledon head to Mansfield Town

Adebayo Akinfenwa isn’t worried about his lack of goals this season as AFC Wimbledon prepare to face Mansfield Town tomorrow.

The 16-stone striker, known as ‘The Beast’, held a vote in the summer for fans to choose his goal celebration but so far they have seen ‘The Whip’ only once, against Crawley.

Akinfenwa though told the BBC it wasn’t playing on his mind.

He said: “I don’t get hung up on that.

“Some people get caught up in the negatives, but I look beyond the possibilities and try and defy the limitations put on me.”

The Dons will be hoping to bounce back at Mansfield having let a 2-0 lead slip against Plymouth Argyle on Tuesday night to lose 3-2 in the Football League Trophy.

They will have Dannie Bulman back from a hamstring injury, however manger Neal Ardley is still unable to give summer signing Christian Toonga his debut as the club wait for international clearance.

Host Mansfield should be well rested for the mid-table clash, after leaving six players out of their Football League Trophy loss at Notts County in midweek.

Despite the defeat, manager Adam Murray is in a positive mood.

“We’ll play on the front foot, we’ll set our tempo and our style of play on them and we want to win,” he said.
