It was a case of your name is down but you’re still not coming in for Lewis Hamilton at Wimbledon.
The Formula One world champion was set to join Hollywood stars Benedict Cumberbatch, Bradley Cooper and Hugh Grant in the royal box for the men’s singles final between Novak Djokovic and Roger Federer.
Hamilton is always snazzily dressed – even if he bought his dog to the Sports Personality of the Year awards – but he fell foul of strict All England Club regulations which state royal box guests must wear a tie, jacket and shoes.
Hamilton posted a picture from inside the venue captioned Wimbledon and also a picture of his invitation and its associated guide for guests, which he clearly hadn’t read.
A Wimbledon spokesman refused to comment but confirmed Hamilton had left early and would have been denied entry without a jacket, tie or shoes.
