Nour Cash and Carry, grocer and institution of Brixton Village, is delighted to announce the relocation from its current space on Market Row to a larger, fully refurbished site in the bustling Granville Arcade, from 24th January 2023.
Nour is run by Saja Shareen and her family, who came to the UK in the early 90s after being forced to leave their home in Iraq due to conflict over their Iranian heritage.
After a decade starting afresh in Iran, the Iran-Iraq war sadly broke out and the family sought refuge in the UK.
Saja’s father soon discovered Brixton and local work, and a community that he felt he and the family belonged in. Soon after, he opened a grocer on Electric Avenue, followed by what is now Nour Cash and Carry.
Brixton is home to people from a range of diverse backgrounds and Nour have been supplying them with specialty produce from all over the world – which are often hard to find in larger supermarkets.
Following over two decades of trading at Brixton Village, Nour Cash and Carry’s new location allows the family to extend their range of specialty ingredients even further whilst also continuing to house their hundreds of spices which they are famed for.
Speaking on the relocation, Saja says: “Having been part of the Brixton community for over 30 years, we now proudly call it home. Our small family business has been lucky enough to have global coverage and people come from all over London, and sometimes the UK, to visit.
“We are really excited to start this new chapter for Nour, and we hope to continue to serve the community for many years to come.”
