Halloween event on Church Street makes return for tenth year

An annual Halloween event held in Twickenham is set to return for a 10th year with an evening of fun and fright in store.

Church Street of Twickenham, an association of local independent businesses in the area, will host the event going from 4pm to 8pm on October 31.

The evening contains a range of activities including the Trick or Treating Extravaganza, Live Music and Disco of the Undead.

Mint Hair and Day Spa, who have led the event for years, are bringing back their popular Fancy Dress Competition.

Dan Mint, the owner, spoke of how initially the event began with him just decorating his shop for Halloween, before other shops followed suit.

He said: “It started the ball rolling and we decided to take it one step further and host a Halloween fancy dress competition for a few years.

“Other traders started to think we’re onto something here and every year the event gets slightly bigger.”

Although many people assume the event is council-led, it is actually the independent traders who set up the entire event, such as putting up the flags across the whole of Church Street.

Mint said: “This road is very special, it is a very community-led road.

“We want to showcase how beautiful our road is.”

All traders dress up for the event, with Mint Hair and Day Spa even bringing in a professional makeup artist.

An exciting new addition for the event is the special ‘Instagram bench’ from the 26th of October, made by Sophie King, Founder and Floral Designer at The Bloomery.

Mint said: “It’s just somewhere that people can go sit and take a selfie.”

There is no entry fee, as traders pay for the entirety of the event including the hiring of face painters and fire eaters.

The association also does many other events throughout the year, such as a Christmas event, a French Market and of course the popular High Tide Music Festival.

Mint said: “We’re all really looking forward to it.

“It’s great fun and that’s why I do it every year.”
