Tricksters in Richmond have been warned not to play nasty tricks on their neighbours this coming Halloween.

Richmond Council has issued a reminder to follow the Halloween code in order to deter any unreasonable behaviour.

The area isn’t notorious for trouble on Halloween but, Pete Le Riche, A council spokesperson said: “There are people in the community who can be really scared by people running around in masks.”

Richmond Council’s Cabinet Member for Communities, Pamela Fleming, added: “There are a small number of teenagers who choose to be disruptive, to scare the elderly and to make a nuisance of themselves.

“Our advice is: Don’t take risks, think of your neighbours and follow the Halloween code.”

Extra police patrols have been arranged for the evening of 31st October to reassure the community.

The Halloween code issued by the council is:

  • Never go Trick or Treating without an adult
  • Only go to houses where you, your friends or your parents know the residents
  • Don’t knock on doors where there is a “No trick or treat” sign on display
  • Always carry a torch and stay within areas that are well-lit
  • Stay with your friends – don’t split into smaller groups unless an adult goes with you
  • Don’t talk to strangers on the street
  • Don’t enter anybody’s house – always stay on the doorstep in the light
  • Be careful not to frighten anybody, such as the elderly or those younger than you
  • Be visible at all times so that road users can always see you
  • Look carefully when crossing the road, even when you’re part of a group

Call Richmond Police with non-emergencies on 101 or 999 in emergencies.
