Barnes townhouse collapses during mega-basement build including cinema, gym and wine room

A multi-million pound Barnes house which used to belong to singer Duffy collapsed as builders worked on a mega-basement this afternoon.

The historic Georgian property, which carried a blue plaque in honour of FA founder Ebenezer Morley, was reduced to rubble at around midday.

No-one was inside the property on The Terrace but three people were evacuated from a neighbouring house as a precaution.

It is understood that the home is owned by former Phones4U chief executive David Kassler and his wife Julia who were enlarging the property to include a cinema, gym and wine room.

Firefighters and Richmond Council inspectors have visited the site to ensure it’s safe.
