Over 450 fundraisers braved Sunday morning’s gusty and wet conditions to complete The Sport Relief Mile in Tooting Bec.

Herne Hill Harriers Athletics Club opened their doors for people of all ages to run, jog or walk around the Tooting Bec Athletics Track for the charity organisation.

The event was the third Sport Relief event to be run at the athletics track, which raised £16,000 back in 2012 thanks to donations and runners’ sponsorship.

Herne Hill Harriers Athletics Club Secretary Steve Bosley said: “I think the great thing is that people come just to enjoy it and lots of families have entered.

“From their point of view they’re just coming down to run to raise some money for Sport Relief and as long as they have a nice time and a good sense of achievement, they all get a medal, I think they’re all be happy.”

In addition to the hundreds of similar events up and down the country over the weekend, Sport Relief raised over £51m during Friday’s live television show, an on-the-night record.
