An impressive £2,600 was raised when Dr Rosena Allin-Khan attended Ronald McDonald House’s family fun day at St George’s Hospital earlier this month.
The Tooting-based charity that aims to provide ‘home away from home’ accommodation for families of seriously ill children held the event on Sunday July 10.
Last year Ronald McDonald House in Tooting — which is just one of 14 in the UK — helped 123 families stay close to their children being treated at St George’s Hospital.
The fun-filled day in the car park of St George’s Hospital raised more than £2,000 for the independent charity, which will go towards the running costs of the house.
Tooting MP Dr Allin-Khan hosted the raffle and made a speech, praising the house for providing families with a comfortable place to stay that’s close to their child, so they have less stress and more time to relax together during trying times.
Ronald McDonald House Tooting ‘s house manager, Rachel Tween said: “Events like this are crucial, because Ronald McDonald House Charities is an independent charity, we rely on donations to ensure our House at St George’s Hospital is available for the hundreds of families who need us each year.”
The SW17 house has eight en-suite bedrooms, a kitchen, laundry facilities and a lounge area suitable for families to continue operating as family unit.
Among the guests were families who previously stayed in the house and volunteers from local McDonald’s stores.
Those who attended the event enjoyed various stalls of delicious food and handcrafted gifts, live bands and entertainment all day.
