Slaviša Jokanović will abandon principles to secure Fulham’s promotion

Fulham boss Slaviša Jokanović is prepared to win at any cost as his team prepare to face Aston Villa in the Championship play-off final tomorrow.

Led by the likes of  Alexander Mitrovic, Tom Cairney, and top scorer Ryan Sessegnon, Fulham enjoyed a 23-game unbeaten run in the season and finished third, one place ahead of Villa in the table.

Yet the Serb is ready to abandon his principles in order to secure victory, having lost in the 2017 play-off semi-final to Reading.

He said: “At the end of the game there will only be one hero, so style doesn’t really matter.

“It’s not a question about aesthetics, the only important thing is to win the game.”

Ahead of the game, Jokanović refused to talk about his or any of player’s future at the club.

With only a year left on his current contract, Jokanović has attracted interest from other clubs recently.

On the verge of taking Fulham back to the Premier League, he refused to look past this Saturday’s game.

“I am only thinking about the final, I don’t have the time to think about other things,” said  Jokanović.

“I’m not thinking about my future or the players’ future. The only thing that is important is the game against Villa.”

Jokanovic has turned Fulham into a formidable force in the Championship this year, yet he remains cautious that they must concentrate on this one game and not think about their recent success.

The Fulham boss added: “Behind us is one great season but we can’t think about past games.

“It’s an opportunity to be part of the best league in the world. It’s one game where we have an opportunity to cross the magic line.”

While Jokanović  gained promotion with Watford 2015, Steve Bruce has sealed promotion to the Premier League with four different teams.
