TV presenter Chris Tarrant was among the stars on show at yesterday’s ‘February Fools’ Charity Cricket Match, in aid of the David Adams Leukaemia Appeal fund.
The charity aids the Royal Marsden Hospital, and the match at the Bank of England Sports Centre is one of many events spread out across the year.
The fund was established in honour of Mandie Adams McGuire’s late husband, whose life was prolonged by two years thanks to the Marsden.
Tarrant had worked with David Adams in the past and has been an ardent supporter of the charity ever since.
“I think what they do is amazing,” he said.
“I’ve seen a lot there, especially what they do with young kids, and it’s always very harrowing.
“We agreed we would play a game of cricket in February, no matter what the weather.
“This year is actually the coldest we’ve ever played in but it’s a great cause and we’re proper athletes, we start with bacon sandwiches and finish with a few beers!”
Another celebrity involved was John Altman, best known as ‘Nasty’ Nick Cotton in BBC1’s Eastenders.
He said: “It’s a very worthwhile cause.
“Some very dear people I know have died of cancer so the more people can help, in any way, is a good thing.”
