South west London Aldi shoppers don’t carrot all about Kevin

People fought in supermarket aisles for them, queued from 6am and they are now selling on eBay for almost £1,000 – but you can get one in Streatham for £19.99.

Aldi launched their Kevin the Carrot toys on Thursday and they became an immediate Christmas must-have, with reports of them selling out immediately despite the fact customers could buy a maximum of two each.

People on social media are lamenting the fact they didn’t manage to root one out, and newspapers feature the chaos – but our in-veg-tigation in south west London today proved that not everyone is so interested in the craze.

Streatham’s huge Aldi store would have been an obvious place for keen Kevin owners to go and the staff had clearly expected it, but over 36 hours after their release, the Kevin and family toys all remained untouched on the shelf.

TWENTY-FOUR CARROTS: Demand was not high in Streatham Aldi.

Most shoppers had not heard about the craze and those that had dismissed it as a ‘Christmas fad’, saying they wouldn’t want it taking up space in their house and that it would end up a ‘dust-gatherer’.

It seemed the real carrots went down better than Kevin:

THE ROOT OF IT ALL: Real carrots were more popular

In the Tooting store there were no toys to be seen at all, but rather than it being down to popularity this was because they hadn’t even bothered stocking them.

So it seems that the people of south west London have managed to keep their head in all the Black Friday madness.
