Top GCSE marks and personal achievements were recognised by the council at a ceremony held at Merton Civic Centre.
SCHOOL children, who achieved outstanding results, were invited to a celebratory event at Merton’s Civic Cente on September 3rd.
The Council asked Merton’s top secondary schools to select five of its best pupils to attend the event.
St Ann’s School, Bishopsford, Raynes Park, Ricards Lodge, Rutlish, Ursuline and Wimbledon colleges all nominated youngsters who achieved great personal results, scooped top GCSE marks or excelled in particular subjects.
One student, Patrycja Wiecaszek, who was chosen by Bishopsford because of her 13 fantastic GCSE grades, including A*s in both English Language and Literature, said she felt honoured to attend the event.
She added: “Organising celebrations like this is an amazing idea, as it encourages young people to work hard and try to achieve their best.
“It also makes young people feel appreciated and motivated into working even harder, and makes the parents proud.”
The Mayor of Merton and Councillor David Simpson gave speeches, congratulating the pupil’s successes and expressing how proud they are of the Borough’s top talent.
Yvette Stanley, Director of Children Schools and Families for Merton said: “It is wonderful to see so many of Merton’s young people doing so well.
“Pupils of all abilities, including those with special needs, have had some huge personal achievements.”
