Lambeth residents joined more than 110,000 neighbourhood celebrations up and down the country last Sunday in memory of murdered MP Jo Cox.
The Great Get Together, a group of events instigated by the Jo Cox Foundation, began on Friday and marked the first anniversary of the mother of two’s death.
In Kennington Park there was plenty of entertainment and fun for kids and adults alike, with face painting, crafts, story-telling, a tree walk, the bubble man, tai chi, games and music.
One of the organisers, Tracey Gilbert, said: “What we wanted to do was to come together as a group and try to create new friendships.
“We all challenged each other to invite somebody we kind of might see, such as a neighbour, who we had not connected with before, in the hope of bringing people together.
“The legacy we hope that comes from today is that people will be  saying that they met each other at a Jo Cox picnic.”
Ms Cox was shot and stabbed to death in her Batley and Spen constituency in Yorkshire shortly before the EU referendum last year.
Ms Gilbert said: “Jo was a friend of mine, we met at NCT classes when we were both pregnant, so I knew her as a pregnant lady and then a mum, but also as a force to be reckoned with.
“She loved bringing people together and making a difference.”
