Wimbledon MP Stephen Hammond defended David Cameron on BBC news today after allegations surfaced that the PM once placed ‘a private part of his anatomy into a dead pig’s mouth’.
The former transport minister was quizzed on how damaging the claims in Lord Ashcroft’s unauthorised biography on David Cameron would be on the prime minister.
He told BBC News that he ‘doesn’t think they’re that damaging at all’.
He said: “These are things that may or may not have happened 20 or 25 years ago.”
Mr Hammond revealed that Wimbledon residents were more interested in what Mr Cameron does in office and said he was ‘delivering for the whole of the country’.
When asked whether he would whether he would buy the book he replied: ‘I don’t think I need to’.
Twitter was sent into a frenzy when the claims were published in the Daily Mail this morning.
Bemused social media users trotted out an endless stream of memes, pig puns and a mash-up video called Gettin’ Piggy With It.
Downing Street has said that Mr Cameron ‘will not dignify such claims’ with a response.
