Cat owners are concerned after cases of violent cat mutilation have spiked across parts of southwest London over the last year.
The South London Animal Investigation Network (SLAIN) estimates that they have recorded six or seven new cases of suspected cat murder in the areas such as Surbiton and Stoneleigh.
This pattern of calculated violence against cats is nothing new, as an unidentified ‘Croydon Cat Killer’ has been accused of methodically killing hundreds of cats since 2015, sparking fears they have targeted a new area.
Boudicca Rising, founder of SLAIN, said that vets confirmed the crimes exhibited a range of behaviours they knew weren’t foxes.
Ginger Cat House Rescue, a rescue centre for cats in Stoneleigh, recorded three cases where the bodies of their rescue cats were found in a manner consistent with these human-inflicted injuries.
