Man arrested on suspicion of murder after Brixton stabbing

A 45-year-old man has been arrested following the fatal stabbing of a man  in Brixton yesterday.

He was arrested at his home in south London yesterday on suspicion of  murder and taken into custody at a north London police station.

The victim, in his 30s, was reportedly involved in a scuffle with one other man outside the Argos on Atlantic Road.

Police were called to the scene at 12:50pm, and the man was rushed to a south London hospital but later died. His next-of-kin have been informed.

Detectives believe they know who the deceased is  but formal identification is still awaited. A post-mortem examination will be held in due course.

Members of the community expressed dismay at the scene, with one saying: “I thought it was safe here in Brixton now.”

Others took to twitter, one user writing: “Yet again another senseless stabbing in Brixton right in the middle of the day.”

The fatality follows a spate of knife-related crime in the capital, with the Metropolitan police reporting a sharp increase in knife offences in the past year.

Atlantic Road was closed off and motorists were advised to avoid the area yesterday.
