A brand new market which sells items grown, produced and made by local residents opened in Balham today.
It is one of three markets that will be taking place over the coming weekend.
Producers at the first Balham Country Market were selling everything from cupcakes to hand crafted jewellery.
Country Markets is a national organisation which encourages local people to get together to sell their own produce.
One of the stall holders was Lily Almeida, 16, from Streatham.
She said: “I’m selling cupcakes, I’ve made them all myself. I was baking last night for quite a while.
“I’ve always enjoyed baking and it developed from that. I started practising and I got better and better.”
Fiona Richmond, the chair for the country market in Balham, helped set up the event which will take place every Friday at Balham
She said: “We’ve been involved for the last couple of months in bring together the producers from the area.
“Our producers can be anything from people making cupcakes to making jams, baking breads, lots of crafts, making cards, clothes and we’ve even got a little café here.”
London Framers Market will be held at Chestnut Grove School between 9am – 2pm on Saturday as well as a Sunday Fresh Food Market on Hildreth Street on Sunday.
Balham Country market will be held every Friday between 2-4pm at Balham Baptist Church.
