A playground accident led to the death of a five-year-old boy at a South West London school yesterday.

Samual Orola was found “unconscious but not breathing” in the Tolworth Infant and Nursery School playground yesterday afternoon.

He was pronounced dead at hospital where he was taken by paramedics who arrived quickly on the scene.

Head Teacher Rachel Nye said: “Sammy was a delightful boy with lots of friends. I am deeply saddened by his death.

“Opening today was hard but it was the best thing to do for the children.”

The school staff have worked out plans to support children and families and will have additional adults in the school.

Kingston Council Leader Derek Osbourne said: “Our collective hearts go out to the family and friends of the child and to the whole school community.

“The Council will provide the support that is required for all those who are struggling to come to terms with this news.”

Samual’s death is being treated as unexplained and a full police investigation will take place to understand the cause.

Kingston CID Detective Inspector Ray Williams said: “Our condolences go out to Samual’s family and friends and we will work closely with the school to carry out our investigations with minimum disruption to their young pupils.”
