Clapham ‘toilet bar’ hosts Christmas market to raise charity cash

Owners of Clapham’s newest bar WC hosted a one-day Christmas event this weekend and encouraged visitors to sample food and drink from some of its local suppliers.

Mulled cider, buttered rum and even the chance to buy a Christmas tree were on offer in the bar’s courtyard located next to Clapham Common tube station in south west London.

Part-owner Jayke Mangion told South West Londoner that hosting WC’s first Christmas market was an opportunity to promote the business and raise money for a good cause.

He said: “The charity was chosen by our manager Paul Williamson who has worked with them before and they are close to his heart.

“They are a very fun charity and work with some great people who are also local to this area so we could relate.”

Visitors could purchase cheeses, wines and a variety of charcuterie at the market and were treated to festive music whilst sitting by the fire surrounded by the buzz of busy shoppers on Clapham High Street.

WC, which now stands for Wine and Charcuterie, sits underneath Clapham Common tube station and was once an old Victorian toilet which was disused for many years.

The new owners decided to keep the bar’s namesake but attribute the title to its modern function as a food and drink establishment.

The event was hosted on December 14 from 11.30am – 4.30pm.
