PANORAMIC views of the capital from the top of Merton Civic Centre are to be revealed to the public as part of an open house weekend on the September 19 – 20.
Visitors will be able to see not just Merton but across London to the London Eye, Canary Wharf and beyond.
The tours will also include a visit to the Council Chamber where the Borough’s big decisions are made.
Councillor Henry Nelless said: “The tour around the Council Chamber may even encourage visitors and residents to come along to a council meeting one day and possibly get involved in our lively political debate.”
The next council meeting will take place on Wednesday, September 16 at 7.15pm and members of the public are welcome to attend.
The Civic Centre opening is part of London’s biggest architectural festival in which hundreds of buildings will open their doors to the public.
Another site in Merton which will be open is the Baitul Futuh Mosque, Europe’s largest, which was voted one of the Top 50 buildings in the world by Spectator magazine.
Tours of the Civic Centre will start approximately every half an hour from 10am – 3pm. No booking is required but visitors are advised to arrive early to guarantee their place.
