Lemony Snicket has collaborated with a young orchestra for a concert to get children involved in classical music, which will be hosted at the Southbank Centre tomorrow.
Young professional orchestra Orpheus Sinfonia will be performing The Composer is Dead, which features text from A Series of Unfortunate Events author Lemony Snicket.
The performance will be narrated by veteran broadcaster Nicolas Parsons and is designed to be a musical introduction to the orchestra for children and combines narration, drama and music.
A spokeswoman said: “At a time when the importance of music in the school curriculum is being increasingly diminished, it is extremely exciting to see a project very much targeted at involving children in classical music.”
Lemony Snicket, real name Daniel Handler, produced the wildly successful A Series of Unfortunate Events which sold more than 60 million copies and was made into film series starring Jim Carrey, Jude Law and Meryl Streep.
The concert is part of the Yehudi Menuhin International Violin Competition, the world’s leading international violin competition for players under 22 and one performer is aged 10.
The Composer is Dead by composer Nathaniel Stookey is aimed at both children and adults and will include pieces by Mozart, Brahms and Haydn.
Mr Stookey has previously composed Junkestra, which featured thirty instruments made out of trash from a San Francisco dump.
He was also the youngest composer ever commissioned for the San Francisco Symphony’s New and Unusual Music Series.
The concert will be performed at the Royal Festival Hall in the Southbank Centre at 12pm tomorrow and tickets are £10 available by contacting the box office on 020 7960 4200.
