A New Malden gran will celebrate turning 90 by getting behind the wheel of a Ferrari to raise charity cash this week.
Pat Farr, 89, will be taking to the track at Dunsfold Aerodrome as part of The Royal Marsden Cancer Charity’s Big C Challenge this Saturday.
Pat’s sister Betty has undergone treatment at the specialist cancer hospital and Pat is determined to raise as much as she can in return.
She said: “I have never done anything particularly daring or challenging so when I told my friends and family they all were surprised as not many 90-year-olds drive Ferraris!
“My grandson suggested doing it to celebrate my 90th birthday and I said ‘game on’.
“I’m going to put my foot down and hope for the best.”
The fundraiser is looking to raise £80,000 to train robotic surgeons at the Royal Marsden.
“I’m not nervous at all I’m just excited. I’ve had a wonderful life and I want to give something back.”
Pat will also test drive an Audi R8 as part of the adrenaline-fuelled fundraiser.
I just hope people will donate for such a good cause. I don’t know a family that hasn’t been touched by cancer.”
