Dr Rosena Allin-Khan comfortably retained her seat in Tooting securing 30,811 votes – with a vote share of 52.7% .

Conservative candidate Kerry Briscoe picked up 16,504 votes, while Liberal Democrat Olly Glover won 8,305.

The Green Party’s Glyn Goodwin secured 2,314 votes, Social Democrat Party candidate Roz Hubley gained 77, while the Brexit Party’s Adam Shakir won 462.

58,555 people voted in Tooting – 76.1% of the constituency’s electorate.

Dr Khan has held the seat since 2016 after taking over from Mayor of London Sadiq Khan.

She said: “I am indebted to the team that has worked so incredibly hard to return me as the Member of Parliament for Tooting, I could not have done this without you.

“I also want to congratulate the two fantastic Members of Parliament that have been elected tonight for Putney and Battersea, we now have three red ladies in Wandsworth.

“Today saw unprecedented numbers of people voting with queues around the block.

“People voted with their heads and their hearts to fight against division and hatred being stirred up by the Prime Minister.

“The message was heard loud and clear, people in Tooting went out in the wind and rain to elect a pro-remain Member of Parliament, and I am very grateful to everyone that put their faith in me.

“The harsh reality is that tomorrow, food banks will be open, record numbers of parcels will be handed out and on Christmas day 3000 children will wake up homeless.

“So apart from Tooting electing the local woman who will never stop fighting for them, there is little to celebrate tonight.

“I thank every single person in Tooting that has put their trust in me and I am not going to stop fighting for every single one of you for as long as I am your Member of Parliament.”
