Carshalton and Wallington’s Lib Dem MP launched his own political fight back following the party’s shocking general election performance last week.
Mr Brake thanked those who voted for him and acknowledged there were a tough five years ahead.
He said in a statement: “Thank you so much to all who helped me and supported me to get re-elected for another 5 years.
“It is a privilege and an honour to be able to represent the people of Carshalton and Wallington and I hope that together we can continue to make our area one of the best places in the UK to live, work and raise a family.”

In addition to thanking voters he laid out his plans for the next five years.
He said: “We have many challenges ahead. First, we must continue to fight for St Helier Hospital and continue to improve our area.
“Second, we must again make the case for liberal democracy in the UK – it has never been more needed yet more under threat.
“Over the next 5 years we can expect our civil liberties to come under fire, the in-out referendum on Europe, and the promised £12bn of welfare cuts that are bound to affect the most vulnerable.
“I am determined to do whatever I can to counter the negative effect of these and the many other policies a Tory majority government plans to inflict on the country.”
