Commuters on the tramlink from Croydon to Wimbledon found themselves amongst an array of white-masked performers at midday today.
The performance artists, who refused to speak, were carrying chalk boards where they wrote down their thoughts and posed ‘philosophical’ questions.
Passengers on board were invited to take part and write down their dreams on a ‘Paper of Dreams’ or add their own chalk phrases to the boards.
The eerie looking artists managed to bring a smile to the usually solemn-faced commuters, dragging them away from their free papers and MP3 players.
One chalked question said: “Are you even really awake?”
An enthusiastic passenger replied: “Yes I am awake, I see the trees, the sunny weather, the sky and grass.”
The ‘Paper of Dreams’ attracted an array of contributions from ‘I want to be rich’ to the more perplexing ‘What happened to the Snowdens of yesteryear?’
Despite the sometimes gloomy chalked questions such as ‘Is living your life worth it?’ the performance seemed to improve the usually dreary commute.
With some boards telling passengers ‘This is the Matrix’ and ‘This is Inception’ it was clear the masked commuters were not taking themselves too seriously.
The artists are believed to have carried on their journey so if you are travelling around South West London today you might just spot them.
