Trans Pride London saw trans rights advocates march from Trafalgar Square to Hyde Park Corner on July 7.
Their aim was to reaffirm their validity and bring attention to the major issues faced by the trans community, such as hate attacks, anti-trans bills or housing and healthcare discrimination.
The protest, held a week after London’s main Pride event, was the largest since they started five years ago, with estimates of around 30,000 attendees compared to 1,500 in 2019.
We spoke to trans and non-binary people who explained the movement and learn about their experiences with gender identity.
Charley Dean Sayers (she/her), 23, is a model and author of November 17th, a book with intimate and detailed imagery of her and her family’s journey through gender confirmation surgery.
Tarun Iyer (they/them), 28, is a non-binary software developer who spoke to us about their life growing up with the pressure of male gender-roles and the relief of their self-acceptance as non-binary.
