A spectacle of theatre, games and performances will transform the City of London’s streets this autumn.
The free festival will take place on October 15 and will feature more than 100 performers, a mass treasure hunt, and participatory dance.
Three carnival-inspired fairs will open at famous City locations including Guildhall and the Museum of London.
City Corporation policy chairman Chris Hayward said: “This must-see event is set to become one of the capital’s cultural highlights of the year, drawing a huge audience from across London and beyond.”
The plan is to boost the Square Mile’s pandemic recovery by attracting UK and international visitors to the area, with an extra 1.5 million people brought to within a 45 minute commute of the City by the recently opened Elizabeth Line.
Iconic Square Mile spaces and secret hideaways will be filled with theatrical characters inspired by the City’s past and future, part of the first major output from the region’s ‘Destination City’ development.
The programme seeks to inject £2.5million annually to boost the City’s leisure offer and retain its reputation as a go-to location for Londoners and tourists alike.
Cafes, pubs, bars and restaurants will host ‘after parties’ to continue the festivities into the night.
Hayward added: “Together we are putting the City of London on the map as a globally-renowned destination which is exciting, diverse, creative and inclusive.”
