Labour’s Rosena Allin-Khan has won in Tooting, massively increasing her majority over Conservative challenger Dan Watkins.
Dr Allin-Khan first won Tooting in a 2016 by-election following Sadiq Khan’s victory in the London mayoral election, winning 55.6% of the vote.
She worked as an A&E doctor at St George’s Hospital in Tooting prior to entering politics.
Dr Allin-Khan’s Polish mother and Pakistani father separated after having two children, and her mother worked three jobs to support the family.
Dr Allin-Khan said: “Tonight we can all savour that Tooting is Labour.
“I am so honoured to be re-elected as your member of parliament.
“Tooting is and always has been home, this area, this community, matters so much to me and today Tooting has spoken.
“Tooting has sent a clear message to Theresa May, we will not stand by will you force so many of our children to rely on food banks, we not be silent when you are responsible for undermining the great team at Tooting St George’s Hospital where I am proud to be an A&E doctor.
“We will not allow you to damage our children’s future with your education cuts.
“We want to invest in the next generation of fully funded schools, as every child has the right to fulfil their potential.”
