Prince Philip not to have state funeral after dying aged 99

Prince Philip won’t be having a state funeral due to ongoing Covid restrictions, following his death this morning, at the age of 99.

His body will be laid to rest at Windsor Castle where he passed, until the ceremony where only 30 people when be allowed to attend his funeral, due to ongoing restrictions, meaning it’s only expected to be immediate family.

The funeral will take place at St George’s chapel in Windsor in about a week’s time and the public are encouraged to not attend. The service is expected to be televised.

There will be a period of official mourning from the day of Prince Philip’s death, for eight days and all official flags to be flown at half-mast until 8am the day after the funeral.

There is some speculation as to whether there will be a national day of mourning.

The funeral has been code-named Operation Forth Bridge, a reference to the bridge between Edinburgh and Fife, and the Duke of Edinburgh did take some part in the planning for his funeral.

The list of those expected to attend won’t include three-week-old Lucas Philip Tindall, but is expected to include the core Royal Family – children and their partners, grandchildren and their partners and great-children of Prince Philip.

However, Prince Harry may travel alone from his USA base, with the Duchess of Sussex in the early stages of her pregnancy with a her daughter.

A potential 30-strong list could include the following, though there may be an expectation that the prime minister also attends.
