Twickenham Stadium will host 10 games in the tournament
All eyes will be on Richmond in 2015 as Twickenham Stadium hosts ten games in the Rugby World Cup.
The borough will host the opening game of the tournament, England’s first match, on Friday September 18.
It will also host four pool games, two quarter finals, two semi-finals and the final match of the tournament on October 31.
“Twickenham has a long history as the home of rugby and in less than two and a half years time, we will be welcoming the world to our beautiful borough and to a celebration of rugby,” said Lord True, Leader of Richmond Council.
“It is an honour that Twickenham Stadium will be hosting this tournament and I know it will receive huge support from the whole borough.”
“It is believed that the tournament will have a positive economic benefit for the area due to the new visitors and publicity that it will attracted.
Lord True also cited the Olympics as an example of how local volunteers can put on large scale events successfully.
