The reputation of London Euston station reputation as a key transport hub is being undermined by persistent overcrowding, with little sign of improvement despite previous warnings from regulators.
A new investigation from the watchdog London TravelWatch has found that passengers are being put in danger by failures to address the station’s problems.
The regulator said: “We are also very concerned that the situation will only worsen if new operators are successful in their recent applications to run additional services from the station, or if any of the current operators that run out of Euston increase their service frequency.”
A key issue reported by passengers has come to be known as the ‘Euston Dash’.
This is when the platform for a departing train is announced just before it leaves, causing large groups of people to run towards the platform at the same time.
One regular commuter, Dan, said: “I’ve seen injuries occur.”
Network Rail, who run Euston, have said they are aware of the station’s shortcomings, but require more government funding to resolve the issues.
