Tom Brake hosted a charity dinner at the House of Commons to raise money for the NSPCC last weekend.
The event took place on Saturday, October 1 and raised £7,000, with more than 170 people in attendance.
Lib Dem MP Mr Brake appeared on behalf of the charity’s Surrey fundraising group.
The Carshalton and Wallington MP said: “It was a great pleasure to be able to host the event and it is fantastic that it raised so much money for the NSPCC which is a fantastic cause.
“I’m a strong supporter of the work the NSPCC does. Whether it’s going to schools to deliver its ‘Speak out, stay safe’ assemblies and workshops, which teach children about the signs of abuse and where they can get support, or running Childline, which provides a safe, confidential place for children to turn to 24 hours a day, seven days a week.”
The NSPCC is the only children’s charity fighting to end child abuse in the UK and it relies on voluntary donations, which makes up more than 90% of its funding.
Aaron Hearne, the NSPCC’s community fundraising manager for Surrey, thanked Mr Brake for attending.
He said: “I’m very grateful to MP Tom Brake for agreeing to host the event. It was a great night.
“Every penny raised will help the charity fight for every childhood, rebuild children’s lives and help prevent child abuse from ruining any more.”
