A new cardio programme for children as young as four months is attracting Wimbledon’s ballooning youngsters.
Merton children, ranging from four months to 12 years, are taking part in a new regime provided by The Little Gym.
Based in Hampton Hill, the exercise facility has begun the new cardio vascular programme in order to combat childhood obesity.
The initiative kicked in at the start of the new school term, with discussions having taken place over the summer.
Hampton Hill franchise manager Marlene Welburn said: “We’re introducing a new cardio vascular programme for the kids because they can’t do an hours work without being completely exhausted.”
Ms Welburn said they get lots of children from Wimbledon, Wimbledon Village and Raynes Park.
She added: “We work with all abilities to help change children’s attitudes to health and fitness.”
Ms Welburn said the regime encourages a positive relationship with exercise from a young age.
Merton Park mother of two Vicky Graham said: “I think it’s a great idea for children to take part in physical education with their peers.
“Physical exercise is key, and positive role models are important, especially for kids who eat a lot of junk food.”
