London Landmarks Half Marathon 2022 raises more than £6m for charity

The London Landmarks Half Marathon 2022 achieved a huge goal, collecting more than £6m for charity.

According to the organisation, the fifth edition of marathon, which took place on Sunday 3 April, raised £6,407,542 for 300 charities.

From beginners to experienced runners, thousands of people ran on behalf of various charities, such as homelessness charity Shelter, Pancreatic Cancer UK, Guide Dogs, Parenting Mental Health which supports parents of young people with mental health issues, and The Institute of Cancer Research.

Each runner who decided to run for a charity had the task of raising funds for it in order to take part in the half marathon.

Lannah Carbonilla, Head of Supporter Engagement at The Institute of Cancer Research, London, said: “The Covid-19 pandemic has had a huge impact on all fundraising charities so it’s fantastic that our amazing #TeamICR runners were able to get their trainers on again and raise funds for our pioneering cancer research at the London Landmarks Half Marathon.

“Their support makes a massive difference and we’re so grateful to them. We loved being able to cheer them on in full force and get that buzz of seeing thousands of people running for good causes.”

Supported by a number of partners and sponsors, the marathon itself was set up by the charity Tommy’s, which funds and conducts research into the causes of premature births, stillbirths and miscarriages.

Tommy’s came up with the idea of an event like the London Landmarks Half Marathon in 2014, when the charity set itself the goal of doubling the amount of money it could raise each year.

In fact, the London Landmarks Half Marathon not only helps hundreds of charities to continue their important work, but also wants to celebrate London’s culture and history, with a route that gives all the participants the chance to run through Westminster and the City of London.

This year, the route started in Pall Mall and led to Downing Street, passing Big Ben, St Paul’s Cathedral and the London Eye.

In addition, another major achievement of the London Landmark Half Marathon 2022 was the decision to create a plastic bottle-free event, with paper cups of water available along the route.
