Wimbledon Village Christmas Shopping Day on Sunday is aiming to benefit local businesses and charity, as well as offering discounts for thrifty Christmas shoppers.
Festivities will run from 11am – 5pm on the High Street, with Santa riding in on horseback at noon to set up grotto outside the Dog & Fox.
If Santa isn’t a big enough draw, pony rides will also be available for children.
Shops and restaurants will be offering discounts, drinks and snacks and there will be street entertainment and carol singers.
The event is in the third year of its current format and organiser Mie Baekke, of Sia Home Fashions, says it is better for village businesses than before.
“There used to be a Christmas fair, but it got a bit out of hand,” she said.
“People would come from outside and there were a lot of people in the street. Stalls were making a killing, but people weren’t going into local shops.
“It wasn’t really what we wanted.”
Wimbledon Guild, which celebrated its centenary two years ago, will be on hand raising funds.
The guild offers care for the elderly, counselling and clubs and classes.
“We’re just grateful to be involved,” said Libby Asher of the guild’s fundraising department.
“It’ll be a lovely day – the sun will be shining and it’ll be great!”
