Graphic footage of a ‘heartless’ hit-and-run motorcyclist driving away from a stricken man was released by Sutton police in a bid to track down the rider from the Saturday night collision.
The 53-year-old man, crossing Malden Road at the junction with London Road, was struck by a motorcyclist and sent flying down the road as both the rider and pedestrian tumble to the ground.
The video shows traffic beginning to move off as the pedestrian crossed the road before the collision shortly before 12:30am on Saturday February 28
The rider is knocked from his motorbike but quickly stands up and ‘angrily berates’ the stricken man before getting back on his bike and driving off down Cheam Common Road.
Detective Sergeant Dave Jarvis from Sutton Police said: “It would have been obvious to the rider of the motorcycle that the pedestrian he had collided with was seriously injured.
“To act in the way he did, shouting at the unconscious man and driving off from the scene without attempting to seek medical help, was a truly heartless act.”
As the motorcyclist drove off he was pursued by a car that was also waiting at the traffic lights, Police are appealing for the car’s occupants to get in contact to assist the investigation.
The injured man was taken to a hospital in south London and treated for his injuries – he has since been discharged.
The video also shows that the motorcycle was damaged in the collision, losing a top box and a mudguard.
